Terms & Conditions

Important Information:
  • Customer Premises Equipment is referred to as CPE and in the context of the ISDN service, is seen as any ISDN capable equipment.
  • All CPE must be licensed by the Regulatory Authority before it may be connected to Telkom's Integrated Services Digital Network.
  • CPE must be set-up according to the correct ITU-T configurations to avoid malfunctioning and errors.
  • A certified copy of your ID document or proof of your identification will be required, if you are the sole proprietor, individual, or partner in a partnership.
  • A certified copy of your registration documents will be required, if you apply on behalf of a closed corporation (CC) or a company (Pty).
ISDN product-specific conditions

I/we accept and understand...

  • that the provision of the ISDN2 and 2a services is dependent on the distance between the Telkom exchange and my/our premises;
  • that I/we hereby indemnify Telkom against damage or claims that may result from the malfunctioning of CPE used in conjunction with the service or errors caused by wrong configuration of the service;
  • that if the exchange in my/our area does not support the ISDN supplementary services in my/our area, Telkom cannot be held responsible for providing such services;
  • that Telkom will only provide a maximum of 300 DDI numbers per PRA service and 20 DDI numbers per BRA service;
  • that the ISDN2, ISDN2a and ISDN30 services are based on the standards of ETSI (European Telecommunication Standards Institute);
  • that for the ISDN2 and ISDN2a services to function, the following distance limitations apply:
    • 5.5km between the exchange and the NT;
    • 1.5m between a wall socket and the NT;
    • 10m for an So-Bus extension, with a maximum of 5 extensions; and
    • 20m for an analogue port extension, with a maximum of 2 extensions per port;
  • that I/we have to make provision for a suitable electrical power supply - standard 230 volt AC 15 amp 3-pin domestic socket, adequately earthed and with earth leakage protection for each ISDN circuit required. The socket shall be for the exclusive use of the NT and the CPE connected to the NT; NOTE: To prevent lightning/surge damage to the NT, Telkom recommends that you make use of a multiplug to ensure that all CPE connected to the NT is powered by the same AC wall socket;
  • that I/we shall be fully liable for lightning /surge damage that may occur on the NT ports, due to wiring from the analogue or digital extensions that are exposed to outdoor environments; and
  • that during the emergency mode for the ISDN2 service, only one extension will be in operation and for the ISDN2a service, one extension will be in operation on either the So- Bus or the analogue extension
